Nollywood actor Leo Mezie, who was flown to London for his Kidney treatment is said to be responding well to treatment. Speaking from his sick bed in London, Leo thanked all those who provided financial assistance to make it possible for him to go to London. He said:

“Hello people, this is your boy Leo Mezie, I want to use this medium to say thank you for your support, financially, thank you players, I just want to let you know that everything got across to me. I want to also thank in a special way; my president, Igbinagbo, Chioma Okoye my sister, Kele Akara my wonderful friend and brother, I want to thank Chijiro, I want to thank Ifoma Okereke, these are the team that swore me to action immediately the news got broken. I thank you guys, I thank you all, and I pray God to bless you in a million fold. I’m sorry this came a bit late, it is just that I have been unstable, but I am now stronger and better…”

Photos: UAE woman pioneer Ameera Bin Karam, her mother and sister laid to rest after dying in house fire

Sharjah Business Council member and director of the Pink Caravan breast cancer awareness group, Ameera Bin Karam was buried today along with her mother and sister.
Karam, 38, her sister Sama, 40, and their mother Badriya Abdul Rahman, 57, were killed yesterday, Saturday October 22, due to smoke inhalation after fire broke out at their Sharjah villa.
Bin Karam’s brother Khalid, 32, was critical when he was rushed to Al Qassimi Hospital. He is currently being treated and recovering.
The funeral which was held today was attended by top officials led by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development. The funeral prayer was held at Al Sahaba Mosque following the midday prayer.
The UAE Businesswomen Council mourned the death of Bin Karam, whom they described as a “role model of a working citizen”.
“During her service, Ameera contributed to empowering and strengthening the economic status of women. She was a role model of a working citizen who attaches utmost importance to the interests of the country. She never hesitated to work and never spared any effort to give or fulfil achievements,” said Mariam Mohammad Al Rumaithi, Chairwoman of the Emirates Business Women Council.
Ameera had set an example for the creative, innovative and successful women in all tasks assigned to her especially in the  initiatives, humanitarian, economic and social campaigns that she led. She had a profound impact on the international level,  Al Rumaithi added.
Bin Karam was a successful businesswoman, unique leader, and rich personality who bent on giving and sacrificing for the sake of the country, she added.

Nigerian Police Recovers 19 Cars, Suvs From Ex-IG Solomon Arase .

seThe Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered an investigation into the purchase and distribution of vehicles by his predecessors.It was gathered that the probe was informed by the discovery that retiring officers, including former IGs and Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, were in the habit of appropriating police vehicles for their personal use.

Findings by Punch on Sunday show that the probe, which is being handled by the Special Investigation Panel, had identified and recovered 19 police vehicles from former IG, #SolomonArase. Some of the vehicles include assorted sedans, Sports Utility Vehicles and pick-up vans. .

The vehicles, it was learnt, were apart from the four vehicles he was entitled to take away with him on retirement.A senior officer, who is familiar with the investigation, said the SIP was still working to recover five additional vehicles from the former police boss. .

It was learnt that the SIP, headed by Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Ali Amodu, (retd.), had also recovered a number of police vehicles from other retired DIGs.The recovered vehicles were said to have been distributed to newly promoted Commissioners of Police and AIGs. .

The source said, “We are making progress in our investigations. We were able to trace 24 vehicles to the former IG and we have recovered 19 already. He has yet to release the remaining five, but we won’t let up until we recover all the vehicles. We have pictures of the vehicles and they have been documented, so he can’t deny it, the recovery is a fact.” .

Arase had earlier denied taking away 24 vehicles when his successor, Idris, made the allegation during an interview with journalists on July 18, 2016, shortly after he assumed office.Idris had further alleged that the seven DIGs, who retired alongside Arase, also carted away between seven and eight cars each. .

Arase, however, denied the allegations of his successor, saying he did not go away with any police vehicle.He said, “What am I going to do with 24 cars? Do I want to open a car shop? This is a malicious accusation.

‘I don’t believe Sambo Dasuki stole $2.2 billion’– Former president Goodluck Jonathan

While responding to questions after his lecture at Oxford University yesterday, Former President Goodluck Jonathan, said he does not believe Former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, can “steal” $2.2 billion as he is being accused of by the EFCC. Responding to a question on Dasuki, Jonathan said

 “They said the National Security Adviser stole $2.2billion. I don’t believe somebody can just steal $2.2 billion. We bought warships, we bought aircraft, we bought lots of weapons for the army and so on and so forth and you are still saying 2.2 billion, so where did we get the money to buy all those things?
Yes, there were some issues. Yes, there are still corruption issues but some of it were over blown. I’d say exaggerated and they give a very bad impression about our nation. You cannot say the national security adviser stole $2.2billion. It is not just possible”.

Dasuki was arrested last year and has been in detention since. He is to be re-arraigned in court on November 16th.

Jonathan also stated that after he signed the anti-same sex marriage law in January 2014, no Nigerian has been discriminated.

“Pls come to my aid. Apart from Due Process Advocate, I rest my case to God. My landlord sold his house in no 66 Igando rd, Ikotun, Lagos. My rent will expire in 2018. On 1st October, the tenants and Agents of the new landlord met and was officially informed of the sale.
The Agents said they don’t have business with us, said if we have not collected our balance, we should do so from the old landlord, that their client wants to build filling station there. They said they have collected permit from Police and Alausa for demolition of the house. Even though some of us like Mr Basil has not collected his balance. We begged for time they refused. Threatened that they bought land somewhere and the tenants refused to quit, the day they did, not with a single pin. A week after the meeting, land use officials locked our main gate, leaving us with the only option of following back yard. There, we found out that the sucker way pit has been opened by God knows who. All in effort to inconvenient us. On 7th October about midnight some group of youths invaded our compound, said a boy is missing and native doctor said the boy is within the compound. We allowed them conduct search. On 10th October, about 10:00am, I was in my work place when I began to receive many calls from concerned neighbours that the missing boy has been found dead in a sucker way of our compound. That group of youths are destroying everything in the yard including my car. They said I should not come home that my life is better than properties. Police was there but could not stop them. They destroyed everything and stole every valuables including my car brain box”

oHadiza Buhari is the fourth child of retired General Muhammadu Buhari, one-time military head of state and currently All Peoples’ Congress (APC) presidential candidate.

Hadiza Buhari-Bello, who is the Chairperson of Africa Support and Empowerment Initiative (AFRISEI) and The Nigerian Peace Corps (PCN) on Monday, October 17th, inaugurated a ‘Chibok Girls Endowment Fund’ to cater for the welfare of the 21 schoolgirls released by Boko Haram last week.

She Sometimes Had this interview, while she spoke about her father being her hero, among other things. Excerpts:

Weekly Trust: How has growing up been like as the child of a famous army general?
Hadiza Buhari: I would say pretty normal. My dad would tell me and my siblings that in life we shouldn’t take things for granted. I have lots of friends from wealthy families and I wanted to be like them, buying expensive things and all that, and he noticed it and called me one day and said ‘You know I sold my properties to raise money to send you to school?’ That was a wake-up call I’ve carried with me since. We lived a normal life, as we always visited the village and he would take us to the farm.

WT: What kind of father would you say he has been?

Buhari: He was been a very loving father and was always there for us to the extent that he helps with our homework. There are so many great memories and I remember a time, in 1990, during the rainy season when my younger sister and I wanted to watch a hailstorm, so he sneaked to the kitchen and got pieces of ice from the fridge and covertly threw it at us and we happily believed a real hailstorm was happening. It was so cool, even when we found out.
When my uncle (his brother) died in 1987, he decided to raise all his children, about seven of them. He also raised the children of late Emir of Nassarawa, Alhaji Abubakar. He’s very caring.

WT: What part of your childhood with him do you miss most?
Buhari: I miss eating with him. I have been married for over eleven years and I really miss that. When I was child I can’t remember not eating with him, whenever he is in town he would eat with us, up until the early 90s. From the time he came out of detention in the early 90’s, he never missed a meal with us. I also miss him accompanying us out of the house to school. After our mum left, he took responsibility for everything. He became more of our mother than our father. He woke us up to prepare for school, listened to or watched the BBC or Voice of America as we ate breakfast. The part I miss most is when he sees us off and we’re all in the vehicle, because we were so many, he’d just say ‘Kabo Air a dawo lafiya’.
WT: What aspects of his parenting method would you say you’ve imbibed?
Buhari: He is always persistent about telling the truth no matter what, so I make sure that my children always tell the truth too. As kids, when we ask for five kobo to buy sweets, he’d give us fifty and if you didn’t return the change he’d ask, telling you that you’re supposed to return the change without being asked. He will tell you never to keep someone’s money or property and I’ve instilled that policy on my children.
I’ve also learned to keep up with my children’s school activities by making sure I’m around to help them with their homework. Back in the day, we used to queue so he could assist us with our homework. One after the other he would help us.
WT: Which of his traits would you say you’ve inherited?
Buhari: My husband is a businessman, so what I used to do back then in my father’s house I still do. I always write down the list of things to buy and give it to him and he will be the one to sort out the money.
