Mouktar Muhammed, a former governor of Kaduna State, died on 1st october, 2017.

Profile: Wing Commander Mouktar Muhammed (11 November 1944 – 1 October 2017) was the military governor of Kaduna State, Nigeria from July 1978 to October 1979 during the military regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo.

The retired military officer was the first governor of Kaduna State after its creation in 1977 by the military administration of Olusegun Obasanjo.

He had earlier served as the Minister of Housing, Urban Development and Environment from 1976 to 1977, following the coup that brought Murtala Mohammed to power.

From 2002, he led activities of The Buhari Organisation, TBO, a political group that championed the aspiration of Buhari to become a civilian president.

Muhammed was, last year, named as chairman, governing council of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Until his death, Muhammed, who held the title of Wazirin Dutse was deputy chairman of the Board of Trustees of Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF.

He was also chairman of Kano-based Freedom Radio.

Wing commander Mouktar Muhammed played an active role in the coup that brought General Murtala Mohammed to power, and was appointed to the new Supreme Military Council on 30 July 1975.

 He was appointed governor of Kaduna State in 1977, in which position he was promoted to Group Captain.
