The Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports, Barr Solomon Dalung has begun a direct engagement with Nigerian youth through a bulk SMS programme tagged HMYSDirect!

It is part of an advocacy/ youth engagement and mobilization strategy of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The campaign, tagged, ‘The Youth Are Here!’ aims to change the narrative on youth, mobilize them and other stakeholders into a collaborative platform to reposition the Nigeria Youth as a PRODUCT.

It is part of efforts to achieve the broader goal of the Ministry’s Strategic Framework tagged the National Accelerated Youth Development Programme, NAYDEP.

Through the campaign, the Ministry seeks to reach and mobilise 18 million youth into National Development. As a youth champion, Barr Dalung recognizes the energy, talent, and potential of the youth and hopes to, through this programme, engage them positively for national development.

Although the Honourable Minister is active on social media with a strong followership, this approach expands the connection between the Honourable Minister and the youth.

By leveraging the use of bulk sms, Dalung believes it brings a personal angle to the engagement strategy of the Ministry as this will build the confidence of the youth on the Ministry.

Youth who are willing to engage with the Minister can forward their updates to: hmysdirect@gmail.com

Include the following:

Name:
LGA:
Age:
Mobile No:
Email:
State:
Education:

Through this project, the Ministry hopes to build a national database of a minimum of 18 million youth within the next 2 years. These will eventually be disaggregated into the 18 thematic issues, showing their employment status, skills sets, educational attainment, and other vital data, which can easily be mobilised and deployed into critical areas of need in nation building.

The data generated will also help the Ministry in its advocacy programme to heighten attention on youth issues, which the Minister will commence shortly.
