If I can swap my lab coat for a career in IT then you too can! My Story

I am Lorraine Nwufo, a graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka with a degree in applied biochemistry which happens to be to me now nothing more than a degree. With not much forthcoming along that path, I decided to deviate into the networking career after realising my flare for IT and particularly Cisco Networking because of its diverse opportunities it offers in Nigeria at the moment and in the future to come.
I got to know about Deft-Rains through Linda Ikeji blog and I’d say going through it at that moment, turned out to be a blessing as it helped to clear my indecision on where to apply for the CISCO programme.2

The advertisement from Deft-Rains was more than impressive; the ease to which I could apply and the efficiency in response is really worth applauding. I registered anticipating the best considering how perfectly they had advertised themselves on the social platform and I got nothing but the best! The lecture room, conducive environment, mode of lectures and the lecturer himself made the period of training a perfect experience.

The programme was easy to comprehend and with the practicals carried out on real-life devices, I can say I learnt from the best. My future is definitely taking the right path now as I’d further my education by enrolling in a networking course for my masters and take the CCNA exams too. I’ve no doubts that soon, and I mean real soon, I’ll be earning well and living my new found dream and would advice everyone to follow their flare and not just settle for their degree because your degree can get you to the door but your passion would take you right in and bring you happiness and fulfilment.

Thus, regardless of your degree or background, if you have a liking for information technology like me with all the opportunities it presents not only now but way into the future, then you should be a part of the soon-to-commence Cisco Networking Intern program which gives you a sure footing in IT networking with its exceptional training methods that allows you access to live routers and switches in an internship-styled approach.

To be considered for the program, send the program code, your names, qualification, e-mail, gsm and preferred program venue [E.g Cisco, Sam Dani, OND Sociology, samdani@email.com, 080XXXXXXXX, abuja center] to 08061596493 (MTN); 08026699981 (AIRTEL); or 08117343348 (GLO) (sms only) and free brochure of the program will be sent you via e-mail.

Entry Deadline: February 11th, 2016.

Chelsea FC Legend John Terry emotionally reveals he’ll leave Chelsea at season’s end

The 35yr old captain who has played for Chelsea all his life as a professional footballer has revealed that the club has refused to offer him a new deal and that he will be leaving at the end of the season.
John Terry in a press statement revealed that though he will be leaving Chelsea, he will move to a foreign League as he wouldn’t want to face his beloved club. He also vowed he’ll try to bow out on a high with FA Cup success. Read his press statement below:
“To be honest, I was in last week before the Arsenal game and it’s not going to be extended. It’s my last run in the FA Cup so I want to make it a good one,” he said after the 5-1 FA Cup victory over MK Dons.
“It’s a big season for me and I want to push on – not just in this competition but in the Premier League as well. I knew before the Arsenal game so mentally I’ve kind of accepted it. We just have to move on.
“They said that when the new manager comes in, things might change. It’s a no at the minute. I needed to know now like I have done every January and sometimes it takes a couple of months to get done.
“Unfortunately it was a no. It’s not going to be a fairytale ending, I’m not going to retire at Chelsea. It’s going to be elsewhere, which it took me a couple of days to get over.
“But like I say, I knew before the Arsenal game and my performance isn’t going to change – the way I train, what I give for the club. I want to give everything and finish on a high, on 100 per cent good terms with the club.
“We spoke about my legacy and coming back to the club when I finish. The most important thing now is to get us up the league.
“I didn’t feel as though I was playing great in the first four or five games of the season, like everyone in the team, and the performances showed that. But since then myself and everyone else has picked up back to where we are. All I can do is keep my head down and plug on because it’ll be my last year at the club.
“The club will move on. No player is ever bigger than the club. Ideally I would have loved to stay, but the club’s moving in a different direction. No doubt they’ll sign one or two great centre-backs.
“I want to come back as a Chelsea supporter in years to come with my kids and see the team doing great. Unfortunately that’s not going to be with me, but I want to see the team do well. It’s going to be my last year and I want to go out at the top.
“I couldn’t play for another Premier League club, I couldn’t do that to the Chelsea fans. It will be elsewhere for sure. I don’t know where and I leave that to the people in charge. It certainly won’t be in the Premier League.
“My agent made the call like we do every January. He got told over the phone and I called to set up a meeting the following day. The club immediately set that up, which was great of them to do that. I wanted to hear it face to face. They told me.
“I feel as though I’m in great nick, I’m playing great and I’ve got a couple of years to go. It’ll just be elsewhere.”

FG Announces Nigeria's Second Official Language

The federal government on Saturday stated that students from primary to tertiary institutions will henceforth learn French language compulsorily, promising to embark on intensive training of moreFrench teachers so as to make it Nigeria’s second official language. The Minister of State for Education, Prof Anthony Anwukah, stated this in Abuja when the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Denys Gaver, paid him a courtesy call.

Anwukah said, “French language is a matter of necessity. We have to because we have Cameroon, Niger, Chad, Benin Republic, Togo Guinea, and Ivory Coast surrounding us and so there is need for us to get more Nigerians to become proficient in French language. “This is good for the continent; it is good for us as a nation. It is good for our brothers at the borders because it will enable us to communicate with them effectively,” the minister added.

I Doubt If Buhari Can Make Any Change – Obasanjo Makes First Swipe At Buhari Government

$

olusegun-aremu-obasanjoA former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, dissected the state of socio-economic affairs of the country, especially the initiatives of the current administration, and returned a verdict of doubt.

His words:

“The problem today is that it is doubtful if the current administrative system is imbued with right mix of skills and values to successfully implement a well-articulated programme of change.”

He also averred that the country was on its way to another debt burden unless the rising debts were creatively addressed.

Obasanjo, who recalled how he led Nigeria to exit the Paris Club and how he pursued public service reforms, regretted that the gains he made had been reversed.

The former president made the remarks at the conference of Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy, ISGPP, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The former President stressed the need for government to kick out all forms of corruption in the polity, provide jobs for unemployed youths and be committed to change.

Noting that the conference was timely as the country was in search of new ways of doing things, given the crisis of governance that now manifests in vigorous ways, Obasanjo said: “The drastic fall in the price of oil in the international market has unravelled the weakness of governance in Nigeria. “The Minister of Finance has recently announced that the 2016 Budget deficit may be increased from the current N2.2 trillion in the draft document before the National Assembly, to N3 trillion due to decline in the price of crude oil.

“If the current fiscal challenge is not creatively addressed, Nigeria may be on its way to another episode of debt overhang, which may not be good for the country. It will be recalled that a few years ago, we rescued Nigeria from its creditors with the deal in which the Paris Club of sovereign creditors wrote off USD 18 billion of debt, Africa’s largest debt cancellation.

“Nigeria then used windfall earnings from oil exports to pay off another USD 12 billion in debts and arrears.

“On the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa, the hope that followed the initiative of the New Partnership for Africa Development, NEPAD, and African renaissance initiatives are being threatened by developments in the global economy and governance.

“Falling commodity prices have put pressures on local currencies, and if caution is not taken, may lead to mounting debts. It is, indeed, proper for us in Nigeria to ask the questions: Is the government working? Is government positioned to deal with challenges arising from these new developments?

“These questions are made apposite by the massive scale of poverty and unemployment, the decay in infrastructure facilities, the impoverished living standards of citizens with regard to food, housing, water supply, education and healthcare which have deepened in recent years.

“This is complicated by the protracted experience of violence and brutality, the flow of internally displaced persons, IDPs, arising from the Boko Haram insurgency in large parts of North-Eastern Nigeria where many citizens have become distressed, live in fear and insecurity.”

He continued: “Recent developments in governance show the failure of systems, the disregard for institutional processes and the general decline of institutions that used to function to guarantee reasonable service delivery to citizens.

“When I assumed office in 1999, though I had some sense that the bureaucracy of government that I left in 1979 had experienced significant decline, I only appreciated the extent of this decline after the Dr Christopher Kolade Panel that I set up submitted its report.

“I implemented remedial measures and a reorientation programme coordinated by Professor Adebayo Adedeji. I got the Management Service Office to undertake and evolve a National Strategy for Public Service Reform. The reform process commenced in 2003 and by 2007, significant progress had been made.

“Unfortunately, the evidence available today shows that those gains have been reversed. The problem today is that it is doubtful if the current administrative system is imbued with right mix of skills and values to successfully implement a well-articulated programme of change.”

Recalling that during his tenure, he identified corruption as the greatest single bane of our society and as one of the worst legacies of misrule and bad governance, a reason his administration set up the ICPC and the EFCC to tackle it, Obasanjo lamented that things had taken a turn for the worse.

“Today, corruption drains billions of dollars from our economy that cannot afford to lose even a million dollars. It seems we are just beginning the fight against corruption afresh.

“Until recently, it seems corruption had returned with a vengeance, taking seat at the very heart of government. I reiterate my statement in October last year during the 55th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence that ‘corruption must not have a resting place within our society; we must kick corruption out because it destroys almost everything and I am not talking about corruption of money; corruption of attitude, nepotism, favouritism, they are corruption in different forms and all aspects of corruption must be kicked out of our society.”

“Now, given these governance challenges and our experience with reform, it is clear that change doesn’t just happen, there must be a basis for change. Leadership has to be committed to change. Beginning with the reality of the budget, there is need for sober reflection. Rebuilding the foundations of governance involved paying attention to values, principles and practices that promote hard work, innovation and sacrifice.

“Leaders who call for sacrifice from the citizenry cannot be living in obscene opulence. We must address these foundational issues to make the economy work, to strengthen our institutions, build public confidence in government and deal with our peace and security challenges. We must address the issue of employment for our teeming population, particularly for our youths.

“Leadership must mentor the young and provide them with hope about their future as part of a process of inter-generational conversation.”

Surprisingly, despite the huge success he has recorded, Nyong has no formal education in the money spinning sector, where he plays big and dictates the pace.

Nyong, who sits on the board of several blue chip companies, is also a proud product of Pastor Sam Adeyemi’s Daystar Leadership Academy.IMG_9224-1434034896-39113

With over a decade experience in the real estate sector, Nyong’s multibillion dollar Lekki Gardens Estate Limited, also consults, develops and manages prime property for a wide range of clientele.

Aside the popular Lekki Gardens, Nyong is also the brain behind Ikoyi Gardens, Mainland Gardens, Port Harcourt Gardens and Richards Court estates.

Nyong, who believes so much in corporate social responsibility, stated that his business is a major employer of labour and has provided employment to thousands of people directly and indirectly.

Nyong’s dream is to provide affordable and quality housing to Nigerians, because according to him, real estate is the biggest expense facing any family’s income.

No wonder Lekki Gardens is going places and re positioning the real estate sector in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Air Force, in its bid for increased self-reliance, has successfully reconfigured 2 demilitarized Alpha Jet in its inventory that were hitherto acquired without weapon delivery capability. The Chief of Air Staff -Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar was seen with NAF technicians at the reconfiguration site.
According to NAF, the 2 aircraft are among the 4 Alpha Jets bought from the United States in 2015 by the immediate past administration to enhance the operational capability of the NAF to combat Boko Haram insurgency in the North East.

However, the aircraft could not be deployed to the theatre of operation before now due to the inherent weapon delivery deficiency hence its limited use for training purposes.

The Blackface Allegations: Setting the records straight – Efe Omorogbe 2Face Manager Writes:

$
0
0

This is the official reaction to Blackface’s song stealing allegation from 2face Idibia’s camp. This is from his manager, Efe Omorogbe. Read below…
When my attention was drawn to Blackface’s twitter rant about the “theft” of his songs by his ex-band mate 2Baba, my initial reaction was to ignore what I perceived as an obvious marketing gimmick for his new single. The reaction from a vast majority of people on social media who read about the allegations was evidence that the ploy had backfired.
Blackface’s press interviews since the twitter rant has made it necessary for me to present the flip side and set the records straight.
1. 2Baba and Blackface do have a bunch of songs they co-wrote in their days as Plantashun Boiz.
2. Both artistes have collectively and individually recorded and commercially released materials from this collection.
3. 2Baba has always given Blackface (Austin Ahmedu) co-writing credit every time he recorded any song that has Blackface’s input – No matter how minimal.
4. Blackface has neither given 2Baba (Innocent Idibia) co-writing credit nor sought “permission” to record any of the materials they jointly authored.
5. Blackface has earned royalties off his shared publishing rights for about a decade.
6. A huge chunk of income he has made derives from royalties earned by the commercial exploitation of the successesful materials performed/recorded by 2Baba.
7. 2Baba did not and couldn’t have stolen “Let Somebody Love You” from Blackface.  The song was released about 2 years ago. Blackface complained about his name being misspelt on the CD sleeve and we personally apologised to him.
8. Yes. Blackface contributed to the writing of the first verse of the song. The second verse was entirely 2Baba. Bridget Kelly wrote her verse and Efe Omorogbe wrote the outro verse.
9. Efe Omorogbe is not 2Baba’s manager on “Let Somebody Love You” but a co-writer.
10. The outro verse was lifted from the song “How?” written in 1997 and recorded in 1999 at Dolphin studios, Surulere. Blackface didn’t write that bit. Couldn’t have written that bit. Blackface cannot in 2016, touch Efe Omorogbe’s writing from 1997.
11. Blackface should be honoured to  have shared co-writing credit with 2Baba. I am. For each and every song we have collaborated on.
12. Blackface should be grateful 2Baba recorded their co-authored materials to ensure a lifetime of royalty income for him.
12. Blackface should record and release his own version of “Let Somebody Love You” and keep 100% publishing on that version. Oops! 2Baba will still be entitled to a share.
13. Blackface is not in 2Baba’s league as a songwriter. Their post-Plantashun Boiz’ catalogs speak for themselves.
14. Blackface should go to court to seek redress if he indeed believes he has a case.
15. Blackface should know that nobody ever secured a court judgement via a twitter rant or media tour.
17. Blackface must have realised by now that the unfortunate tirade has not made “Killa” a hit. At least, not at the moment.
We grind our way to the results we seek bro. Just HARDwork. No short cuts!
