INTERVIEW: She speaks with SEGUN ADEBAYO about her career and plans to keep getting better.

How would you describe your entry into the movie industry?

I developed passion for acting since childhood. Funny enough, I didn’t start with acting despite my passion for the job. I was an internal auditor in a bank and I was living very fine, but I always felt incomplete; I felt like something was missing from my life. At that point, I still couldn’t figure what that thing could be. So, I kept pushing on until one day, the story changed. In a nutshell, I discovered that I was not doing what I really love so I resigned from my pay job and followed my dream. It hasn’t been easy but it has been fulfilling. I am happy I followed my dream because it has been paying off.

Some people see the entertainment industry as a quick way to fame and fortune. What drove you into the business?

I can only speak for myself. My passion drove me into the entertainment industry. I had a good job before I resigned to take up a career in acting. I decided to quit the job to focus to work more on horning my skills. For me, the journey has been pretty exciting ever since and I am happy I took that bold step because it was not easy. Since I started acting, I have been nominated for several awards and I can tell you that I am currently living my dream. I am here to reign and rule by God’s grace.

With your few years in the industry as an actress and producer, what’s your conclusion on the way movies are being produced in the sector?

I am proud of the movies we are producing becasue we are getting better by the day. We all know that Rome is not built in a day. You will also agree with me that our movies are getting better. Nollywood is becoming a major force and everybody wants to be part of its success. Having said that, I will not rule out the fact that there is always the need to keep getting better and improving.

Starting as a young actress is always very challenging as you have to work your way to the top through hard work and perseverance. How would you describe that moment when you had to wait for the big time to come?

It is the same thing for anyone who is trying and working hard to make a headway in any profession. I have had to sacrifice a lot to get to where I am today. I learnt from a very young age that there is always a price for every rise. However, I have never done anything illegal or immoral to get to this level. It has always been by God’s grace.

You are also a movie producer. At what point did you feel you could start producing your movies?

I just felt it was time for me to change the narrative. I decided to stretch myself in order to discover a new side of Ferrari. My believe is that until you stretch yourself, you can never get better at what you do. You can’t continue to do the same thing same way. Sometimes, you may feel like changing the narratives to suit your new style. You may also want to up the ante for personal reasons, I think all these things culminated in how I became a movie producer. You can only discover the potential in a tea bag when it is put inside hot water. This applies to me too.

Must every actor become a producer?

It is not necessary. For me, it is about what works for you and doing it at the right time. I think being a producer works for me now and I am enjoying it. That does not rule out the fact that I am also an actress.

Why is it difficult for some of you to remain an actress?

It’s not really about the movie industry; an average Nigerian doesn’t do only one thing. For example, TY Bello is a photographer and also a singer. Popular actor, Saka is an actor and also a lecturer. Actors shouldn’t be limited to acting alone. The more streams of income you have, the better for you. This means that I need to become better and set new goals for myself.

Why do they call you Ferrari?

Ferrari is my name. I was christened Ferrari at birth by my parents.

Did you ever ask your parents why they named you Ferrari?

My late dad was into automobile. Ferrari means blacksmith. He gave me the name and I understand its meaning very well.

With the spate at which marriages of thespians are crashing, what lessons are you learning as a single lady?

Marriages are crashing everywhere not only in the showbiz world. However I have learnt to be patient, understand the purpose of marriage and become a more tolerant person.

Does this make you dread the marriage?

No, it does not have to get to that point. You don’t leave the kitchen because hot water poured on you. There are still marriages that are working and inspiring other couples. I don’t dread marriage.

You are still single will you consider marrying a co-actor?

I won’t consider that. I prefer to marry someone whose life is not in the limelight. I think it is better to stay in the limelight alone rather that have the two of us in it.

When you heard about Mercy Aigbe’s crashed marriage and the violence she allegedly suffered at the hands of her husband, what came to your mind?

I was shocked and sad. I have learnt to keep my private life private and not to wash my dirty linen in the public.

Meet Nollywood Actress Lota Chukwu” Kiki of Jenifa’s Diary Real Name ” Lota Chukwu” : -“What I’ll consider before saying yes to love”

Lota Chukwu is an actress and model, who studied acting at the Royal Arts Academy, Lagos, and has appeared in many Nollywood movies before she got her big break in Jenifa’s Diary in 2014. Popularly known as Kiki, the Enugu State born actress speaks with SEGUN ADEBAYO on her life and career.

Until you featured in the popular series, Jenifa’s Diary, not many people knew what you could do and how you had managed to push your career to that point, what’s was it like building your career silently?

It’s really not easy coming out and building a reputation that will last, especially in a highly competitive movie industry like Nollywood. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication and commitment to rise through the ranks. Over the years, I took advantage of every opportunity that came my way. Slowly but steadily, I’ve been able build my career. From then till now, I have continued to prove to people that I have got what it takes to keep pushing on with the help of God. I am thankful for the grace to have come this far.

Why did it take you so long to be noticed as an actress with so much understanding of her craft?

I strongly believe that there is a set time for everyman to get his break as long as he’s committed to what he does. As for the periods I spent outside the spotlight, unnoticed, I was working on becoming the person that I am today; it was a gradual process. The journey continues and we are not even looking back.

Would you say acting has been challenging for you?

Acting has not been overly challenging for me. It has a lot to do with burying my person and getting into another character entirely. So far, the numerous roles I have played over the years have helped me to scale over any hurdle that may seem to be lurking around. As long as we don’t stop, we will get better by the day.

Let’s talk about your career before Jenifer’s Diary. There was Lota, who was doing her thing; how long have you dreamt of the life you are enjoying now?

It is my joy and anyone’s at that to be in a position that is worth the while. Although, I’m not where I wish to be already, by God’s grace, I am not where I used to be.So, I look forward to a better and prosperous future. As I said, we have not arrived at the level we desire, but we are progressing and the future looks very bright.

What was that thing that kept you going?

I believe the desire to be an accomplished actress kept me going. I knew I wasn’t there yet, so I had to keep pushing with every breath, until something good happens. Right now, I’m seeking new challenges to help me level up with the expectations of everyone within and outside the industry.

Even at that, you were relatively unknown, what was it like to wait before the big break came?

I am an optimist. I thought that by God’s grace and the effort I put into what I do, the break would come at the right time. So, I feel good about the fact that I was patient about my break into the industry. It pays to work hard while one waits for the big break to come. When it comes, it will be glaring that she has truly paid her dues.

For someone who graduated at the Royal Arts Academy and has featured in a sizable number of movies before Jenifer’s Diary came, will it be wrong to say the series brought out the best in you?

Playing Kiki in Jenifa’s Diary was one of the numerous roles I had taken. Even though I love the series, I’ll say that the combination of all the works I have done have brought out the best in me. So, I won’t limit my success to just the series alone, but every other project I have worked on culminated into the level I am today.

Before you went into Royal Arts, what made you think acting was the next thing for you at that point?

All my life, I had always wanted to act. Everything I ever thought about was becoming an actress. Though, I knew the task ahead of me was not an easy one, I positioned myself properly by putting in frantic effort to actualise my dream of becoming a screen goddess.

Have you ever struggled to interpret a role that you had to drop it for someone else to take?

No, never! The hallmark of a good actress is to put up a good show irrespective of the role. Handing down a role on the backdrop of any difficulty is what I have never done, and I do not predict that in the nearest future.

As an actress, how far can you go to interpret a role?

Not as far as committing murder, but as far as when the character has to come into play. The whole essence is bringing out the character that needs interpretation, but when it gets to the point where it tampers with my dignity, I would have to slow down.

Did you actually see yourself as a star in the making?

Yes, I did. I didn’t think that it would come any easy at all. All I’ve always wanted is to give my best whenever I’m called upon. So, I trust God that the star in me will shine bright in due time. I’ll say that my career is on the steady rise. I am focused on becoming the best that I can be, and that can only translate to a successful career in the near future.

Are you going to try your hand in movie production or directing anytime soon, as some of your colleagues now do?

Producing or directing a movie is quite a daunting task. It takes a whole lot to put a good movie together and get it out there. Really, it’s too early to start thinking about the idea of producing or directing a movie. For now, my focus is strictly on acting

Now coming down to the movie industry where it seems everyone is running a race to put their best element forward all times. How have you been coping keeping your head high and concentrating on your craft to remain relevant?

When the race gets tough, only the tough gets going. I am equally not relenting on my effort to remain valid in the industry. I’m committed to what I do; I’ll give every role a big shot in order to secure my place.

What can you say about Nigerian men. Some say they equate money with romance? Do you think they are romantic?

I don’t think all men are the same. Although there are those that equate money with romance, I still think there are so many of them who are really romantic. It’s all about finding the right kind of man.

How did you feel not winning the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) pageant when you contested?

I was hurt at first. I felt very bad. But when I thought about everything, I just told myself that it was God’s will, and it wasn’t the right time for me. Overtime, I’ve come to appreciate the fact that I didn’t win. Rather,it was a blessing in disguise.

You have kept your shape intact. What’s the secret?

I exercise a lot, and I’m a yoga enthusiast. I also pay attention to what I consume. When and how I consume such foods are very important. These help to put my body in check.

You are beautiful and it will not be out of place to say you would always have advances from the opposite s3x (male). How do you cope with the pressure?

Well, it’s normal for men to make advances towards me. But where it goes from there is what the problem is. I’ve been able to make friends with the male folks, and this has helped me to handle such situations as this.

Does the word falling in love still make any meaning to you?

Yes, of course. It does mean so much meaning to me.

If you are to give love a shot, what’s the first thing you would consider in any man?

I’d consider if he’s a good man, that is, if his standing is right with God. I’ll also consider if he’s a nice person, not just to me but the people around him, if he responsible, has core family value, and respects me and the people he comes in contact with. So these are the things that will matter to me.

Many viewers of Jenifa’s Diary were shocked to hear that Toyo baby was not part of the cast again, what do you think about this?

Jenifa’s Diary is a series; it all depends on where the story leads. While some people leave the scene, others come in. That’s the way I see it.

Did you miss her on set and do you think she will be coming back?

Yes, I did. If the series leads to her coming back into the scene, then she’ll come back.

The First day i Went Naked on set -: Nollywood Actress Juliana Olayode writes

Fast rising actress Juliana Olayode aka Toyo baby has revealed her experience the first day she was nude on set! It’s quite interesting Read below….

You might be disappointed in me after reading this but I am just being honest and I hope you read up until the end.

The first day I was nude on set was the day I had my bath (behind closed doors) for the first time on a location! Yes! Nothing more. I am sorry if I burst your bubble but let me tell you a few personal things.
I have been accused of not being “professional”. I was told an actress should be able to act “any role”; it is the character doing what she is doing, not the actress in real life. And my question has always been; when I am done acting that role, would I be given a different body?
Many people love me, not because they know me personally but because they like the Toyo Baby character. Actors and actresses that have acted predominantly wicked roles are feared by children and some adults in real life and real time. Why? Our perception of them when we watch them is what we take to the real world.
So, my body is my body; on or off set. And some parts of my body are expected to be “private”. Someone once called me “bad market” when I said I would never act some roles. I have had to refuse offers because I asked questions and they did not agree with my terms. What will I be wearing? Hope I would not have to kiss anybody or my body be fondled?
The industry is full enough of it, I won’t add to it. It might take time, but I am committed to joining and representing a decent ‘brand’ of actors and actresses. I personally believe some things can be depicted in a movie without baring it all.
The truth is, this world is waiting for good examples to follow. I get SEVERAL messages from people appreciating my stand for godly morals. It has not been easy, especially when I know how much money I could be making otherwise. But I refuse to sell my soul for money. And truth be told, God honours those who do it right.
My dear aspiring celeb, please do not sleep with any music producer, movie director, lecturer, ‘uncle’ or even ‘pastor’, to get favours. Stop exposing everything and/or twerking to get followers. You are of more value than that. There is more to life than fame. There is more to being happy than having money. Nothing beats peace and contentment; knowing you’re at peace with God, others, and most importantly, YOURSELF. God will make a way for you too like He did for me. Take a stand to do it right so you have no regrets later.
I am a Christian and Jesus has made me what I am. So, just in case you are not saved, and you want Jesus to clean your mess, He can and He will if you let Him. I was once really messed up. Someday I would share my story on that but Jesus came into my life and gave me a new beginning.
Are you alone, worn out, fagged out, distressed, ashamed, afraid, too lost in sin, or just confused, God sent His son Jesus to save you and redeem you. He saved me and gave me joy that NO MAN and NOTHING can take away from me. Do you want same?
It’s simple. All you need do according to Romans 10:9-10 is believe in Jesus, repent of your sins, confess Him with your mouth and just like that, you’re saved. That might be hard for someone who is used to “doing something to get something” to understand but Jesus paid. All you do is RECIEVE.
Can Juliana lead you in the sinner’s prayer?
Yes? Okay, please repeat after me:
Dear God, I thank You for loving me. I am so sorry for all my many sins. I am a sinner and ask Your forgiveness. Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God, You died to save me and rose on the third day for my justification. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Holy Spirit, please fill me and help me to know Jesus more. I have prayed in Jesus name, Amen!!!
Congrats. I am so elated. I hope we meet someday. When we do, please reach out to me tell me you got saved reading this post. President Donald Trump got the nod of the country’s Supreme Court on Monday to implement part of his controversial travel ban against nationals of six muslim nations.

The court revived parts of Trump ban on people from six Muslim-majority countries ,allowing his temporary ban to go into effect for people with no strong ties such as family or business to the United States.

The court agreed to hear oral arguments during its next term starting in October so it can decide finally whether the ban is lawful in a major test of presidential powers.

In a statement, Trump called the high court’s action “a clear victory for our national security,” saying the justices allowed the travel suspension to become largely effective.

“As president, I cannot allow people into our country who want to do us harm. I want people who can love the United States and all of its citizens, and who will be hardworking and productive,” Trump added’

Ahmed al-Nasi, an official in Yemen’s Ministry of Expatriate Affairs, voiced disappointment.

Have Mercy On Us! Nigerian Dreaded “Kidnapper’s Evans” Wife Calls In From Ghana, Begs Nigerians

The call was a surprise. And in the words of Vanguard’s Crime Editor, Emma Nnadozie “it was shocking but revealing and even pathetic.” The caller had said “hold on for Evans’ wife.” The female voice quickly pleaded to Mr. Nnadozie to call her back as she did not have enough credit. Nnadozie returned the call from Ghana and the caller told her story. Excerpts:

My name is Uchenna Precious Onwuamadike, the wife of the Chikwudubem Onwuamadike who you call Evans.   I am 31 years old.   I got married to Evans at the age of 17 at Oraifite, Anambra state in 2004.
He met me while I was coming back from lesson as a student of All Saints Secondary School, Oraifite and I was in class 6 going to take my West African Examination. After we met, I agreed to go with him because of my poor background.

He told me his father married three wives when he was six years old and threw his mother out of his house. He said that one of the wives influenced his father to drive them out of his house also and they were forced to stay with outsiders.   Evans was taken to his grandmother who trained him.   He told me his father accused the mother of being adulterous before driving her out of his house.

Our marriage is blessed with five children. Our first issue is 12 years plus and her name is Udochukwu.   After we got married, he said I should stay with his mother in his village at Akanmiri, Umudim, Nnewi   to teach me how to be a good housewife.   I was there for three years before he took me to Lagos.   We were living at Satellite town in 2006 and after one year, he relocated us back to the village because he could not pay house rent.

While in the village, he normally came to see us.   We spent three years in the village and relocated to Ghana.   On our way to Ghana, we passed through Lagos and stayed at Benny Hotels in Festac where we spent two days before travelling to Ghana.

He spent a month with us in Ghana before coming back to Lagos.   I was pregnant with our fourth child in 2010 when he left for Nigeria to come back in two months time.   After I gave birth, he came back four months later and was able to clear the accumulated bills we kept for him because I borrowed money from friends to clear hospital bill. When he came back, he complained bitterly that things were rough for him in Nigeria and that customs seized his goods.

I was not aware that he was into kidnapping and all the criminal acts he is being associated with now.   All I know about his business is that he was into haulage, buying engine and spare parts for trucks and imports exhaust pipes.   That was what he told me.   The reason he kept me in Ghana was because he said our children should get quality education.

I have spent six years here and after I stopped hearing from him, I called and complained bitterly but he said I should stay for some time.   I then called his friend, Okechukwu, who now   lives in China. He told me that he has not been seeing him and that he spends most of his time with a girlfriend in Festac.     When I called him to complain, he was angry with me and warned that I should stop listening to gossip.   He said that If I should return, I should go to his younger brother’s house in Lagos until he is ready to get accommodation for us.   The brother was formally living in Lagos but he is in Brazil now.   So, when it was impossible to pay my children’s school fees, I packed my bags and baggage and came back to Lagos with our children.

We stayed at his brother’s house at Agric, close to Trade Fair until he took us to a house in Magodo where he claimed he owed rent pending the completion of his own house there.     We have spent just one year in that house in Magodo.   I have no idea of the type of business he was into but he told me that his friends overseas used to buy phones and jewelries for him.

While in Lagos, i was idle and I pressured him to find something for me to do and he promised to do that.   Several times, I asked him to take me to his office but he said they move from place to place to offload goods in haulage business and share profits.   I can’t remember having any visitor in our house.   It is only the agent called Sunny that helped us to pack into our house that I know.     At times, artisans come to do one repair or the other, that’s all.

I don’t know any of his friends and if we were invited to parties, he would not allow us to attend.     He told me that he has no friends and that he hates associating with people.   I was always indoors because he warned me to beware of Lagos women that they are wayward.

I was staying indoors and it was only when I was sick that he took me to a hospital in Ikeja. I always have BP and it makes weak.   We went back to Ghana on the 6th  of this month and he promised to join us in no distant time.   On the 9th, I called him to know when he would be coming   and even the youngest of our children was crying, begging him to come as soon as possible and he promised to come.   In the afternoon, I called but he was not picking.

I called again, there was noise in the background and the line was switched off. I then called the driver that took us to the motor pack when we were going to Ghana and he told me that there was a problem, that police came and arrested Oga and that they came with a fair complexioned lady. When I heard all the allegations against him, I called his brother in Ghana, his mother, father and other relations but I could not get them.

I then called their last born, a student at Oko Polytechnic but he said he had not spoken with him for long. I was confused until I opened Niger news and Vanguard Websites. That was how I got the shocking news about my husband.

I collapsed and later called my kids to inform them what I just read about their father. Since then, I have not eaten, I am still in shock. Our children could not believe what they were reading about their father. They are saying that he cannot do all the things they said he did. In fact, while we were in Nigeria, he had never slept outside our house. My children were crying when they saw his bloody eyes and swollen face. Our condition was worsened when I saw my picture with him and our children on the face book. I don’t know where they got it.

I have not been receiving money from him, I have never seen his money. The only thing I know is that there was a time he bought an expensive watch in Dubai and I wanted to know why he bought it when he could not open any business for me. He kept on teasing me, claiming it came from a friend. It was only when we wanted to travel to South Africa last year Christmas where we spent two years that he gave me N200, 000 for the trip. I have never seen him as a rich man. While with him, we made sure we had all we wanted to eat and that’s all.

I can’t remember seeing any sign of affluence in him. He is not a proud man and he has been wearing one sandal and slippers for long now. He does not go for parties. In fact, I have never suspected him as a criminal. If I have been seeing any strange things, I would have suspected him. We have three cars, one Hilux, one grand Cherokee and an SUV. The N20m they said he sent to me through transfer was given to one Hausa man to pay into an account in Ghana to be used in paying our rent and furnish the house in Ghana. I know he banks with GTB only. Their staff used to visit us in the house. I am not aware that he has five girlfriends and I have never suspected him because he did not keep late nights. It was shocking to hear about his girlfriends.

He did not answer calls in my presence. I used to see his phones being charged but he normally switched them off. I always asked him why use pin code to lock his phones and that he lived a secret life but he threatened to beat me if ever I touched any of his phones. I didn’t even know the security pin. He would leave the house sometimes in the evenings with his phones and would come back between 8pm and 9pm. Most of the things I read about him are strange to me. As his wife, I should have seen the signs but I have not.

He has cancer and does not drink alcohol nor smoke anything. I have never seen gun in our house. I don’t know where they got those frightening guns.

He has never told me he has another house at Igando. Any time he went out, he always called to ask after the children and reassure me that he would be back soon. I am suspecting that whatever happened to him must have come from his father’s second wife. I don’t know what he did to him when he was young but he told the story. He said that after their mother was driven out of the house, he was with his brothers playing outside one day when the second wife called him to pick a bucket and collect water for her. He was four years then, he picked the bucket, collected water and when he came back, she removed her dress and she was wearing only a bag made from animal skin on her waist. She brought seven small stones from the bag, gave to Evans and ordered him to pour the stones into the bucket to know if the gravel would rise (sail) on top of the water or not. Evans said he did as she directed but the only thing the woman did was to take the bucket back and ordered him to go back and play with his brothers. He said he told his father later but he said he was telling lies.

I feel very bad because I did not know if he was doing all these or not. Even if he was into all these, why did he not stop because of me and his children? All the time when we pray, he used to promise God that he would tell Him his story later in life. He reads psalm 23 a lot. Even his phone, he sets alarm for 12 noon to read psalm 23. He took part in our daily prayers in the morning, evening and night. He used to lead us in prayers. We attend Anglican Church. He has never given them money to show off. We used to give N5000 or N10,000 and the highest we have given so far was N50,000 when we baptised one of our children.

I am appealing to the powers that be to spare his life (crying), as I speak now, I am kneeling down with my children, crying and begging for forgiveness.
Have mercy on us. He did not know what he was doing. He did not know what came over him. I am ready to come back to Nigeria and plead on his behalf.

What I am reading in the news is shocking. Though, I have not heard that he killed anybody but all those he injured or took their money should please forgive him because me and my children. They should kindly forgive him, he will repent.

God knows I will not be alive and see my husband doing bad thing and keep quiet. All his wealth should be sold off and given to his victims.

Evans is a good man. He takes care of all his relations including the children of the second wife we are suspecting did this to him. He has just two houses in Ghana but I have never seen them. I saw the house on his phone. Since I have been living with him, he has never injured anybody or beat me. He has milk of human kindness in his heart. He has not been harsh or wicked to anybody. He always advised us to be prayerful I (starts crying again) and complains bitterly any time I failed to pray. His neighbours also know him as a kind and generous man. Members of my family are worse hit by this ugly development.

They said some people brought newspaper publications to show them about their in-law and they have been wondering if he actually did all that because he has been good to all of them. I am from a very good, God-fearing family and if any of us had suspected this in him, they would have forced me out of his house for long. I am ready to come back and testify on his behalf. I will also like to see the Governor of Lagos state and explain the whole thing to him. They said he is rich but I have only N13, 000 in my Diamond bank account. He does not give me money. He told me he will be paying N40, 000 into my account every month but after two months, he stopped, claiming that he was penniless.
